Super Bowl 53 Betting Guide

We are now t-minus two days from Super Bowl Sunday. So, you know your favorite degenerate Nashvillian writer had to get in his Super Bowl 53 Betting Guide. All figures were compiled by The Action Network from the Westgate Las Vegas Sportsbook. LFG.

Super Bowl 53 Betting Guide

New England -2.5

It’s going to be close, but I do think that the Patriots are going to come away with a field goal victory. 37-34 is my exact prediction. The Pats ground game is going to be able to control the tempo, and give them the final drive of the game. The Rams are going to make some big plays, but I like the Pats to cover behind a big performance by James White.

Over/Under 56.5

Two of the four best offenses in the league. I don’t think they’ll have any issues scoring points whatsoever. Take the over and count your money.

Tom Brady Total Pass TDs: 2

Getting four rushing touchdowns in the AFC Championship just felt like a bit of an anomaly. Not to mention, the Rams have one of the more impressive defensive lines in the NFL. I think the Pats will put the ball in Brady’s hands once they get inside the red zone. Take the over.

Jared Goff Total Passing Yards: 285.5

I have no scientific basis for this whatsoever, but I say take the over. Just a gut feeling that the Pats will try to neutralize Gurley/Anderson and make Goff try to beat ’em. If that’s the case, he’s going to post yardage.

C.J. Anderson Total Rush Attempts: 10.5

This one’s all about whether or not you believe Todd Gurley is going to be healthy enough to be a factor in this game. If he’s 100%, you one million percent take the under. If not, there’s room for Anderson to get that 11th carry. I’ve talked a lot about the Patriots backfield this week, but lest we forget, the Rams like to run the ball, too. Even with a Gurley at 50%, I’d say take the over.

James White Total Receptions: 4.5

This could be another MVP-type performance from White (he was ROBBED in Super Bowl 51). I think he’s going to get a heavy workload. He’s not the dynamic play-maker that Alvin Kamara is, but I could see the Pats identifying how Kamara gashed the Rams defense as a receiver and attempting to replicate that. Rex Burkhead could be the beneficiary of that, but White just seems to show up in big games.

James White Total Rush Attempts: 3.5

See above – if we’re talking James White totals, I say OVER, OVER, OVER!

Julian Edelman Total Receiving Yards: 79.5

80 yards really isn’t a lot for a guy who I expect to catch approximately 40 passes. I don’t know that he gets a touchdown, but I’d say the over on this is a pretty safe play.

Brandin Cooks Total Receptions: 5.5

This is a tricky one. I think Cooks is going to make some big plays on Sunday, but he’s proven capable of going over the 100-yard mark on just two or three catches. Plus, the Pats did an excellent job of containing Tyreek Hill in the AFC Championship. Cooks was targeted eight times in the NFC Championship and hauled in seven of those catches. Assuming the Patriots make a concerted effort to make him a non-factor, I’d say take the under here.
