Breaking Down SUP’s Card for ‘Don’t Look in the Basement East’ on 9/23

Southern Underground Pro returns to The Basement East in East Nashville on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Doors open at 1:30PM for Don’t Look in the Basement East, but the show starts at 2PM. You can purchase tickets here. But somehow, this SUP team continues to outdo itself, and this show is no different – let’s hit the card.

Don’t Look in the Basement East Card

I.F.H.Y. vs. The Production Derek Direction worked a scramble match at SUP last summer if memory serves me correct. If not, y’all fuckin’ let me know. I have a reputation as a credible journalist to maintain. Regardless of when it was, the dude was a barrel of fun. His charisma really stood out. Eddy Only wrestled at SUP earlier this year and tore the house down with Kevin Ku. So, I’m pumped to see these guys back at SUP. I missed IFHY at SCI, but heard a lot of good things from the folks who did. More so, I’m excited to see some good tag team action at SUP.

Gary Jay vs. Craig Mitchell – Oh, boy…..I’m already sore from this one. Hopefully, Craig Mitchell has recovered from the psychological damage of being held at knife point by Mance Warner. If not, this one could be over quickly. Let’s hope he has so we get the physical slugfest this one appears to be. These are two tough hombres that can lay the wood.

Warhorse Jake Parnell vs. Joey Lynch – This is a HUGE contest. I mean, this has real main event potential right here. Joey Lynch is coming off of a big SCI championship win. He’s looked phenomenal in SUP since debuting back in June, and is riding a huge wave of momentum after that crazy first weekend in August. Meanwhile, Jake Parnell is a guy who I said was one of the unsung MVPs of SCI weekend. He delivers straight fire wherever he goes. If you’re looking for a potential show-stealer, look no further.

LEGO Match: Mr. Brickster vs. Teddy King – Wow. A Lego match? Have you ever stepped on a Lego? My God. This might as well be a death match. Regardless, we’ve got two elite up-and-coming athletes here. Mr. Brickster has become one of the most popular stars in SUP, partially at the expense of Teddy King. King considers himself vastly superior to Brickster, but with one win apiece over each other in the last month, 9/23 marks the deciding contest in this fun rivalry.

The Trick or Treat Battle Royale – YES! The return of the Trick or Treat Battle Royale! The winner will choose between two pumpkin pails – one will have candy…admittedly, a bucket full of candy is a great fuckin’ championship…and the other will have a title shot. So far, the participants announced include the heart and soul of SUP, Allie Kat, red hot Marko Stunt, Cabana Man Dan, Jaden Newman, and Rockin’ Rivera. If it came down to Allie Kat, Stunt, and Dan, The Basement East might literally explode.

Powerbomb.TV Championship (maybe): Hot Sauce Tracy Williams vs. Kevin Ku – I don’t know if we should be touting this as one of a double main event…triple main event…hell, quadruple main event? But, this is going to be insane. Ku is having an absolutely stellar 2018, and Tracy Williams is…well….Tracy Williams. If he retains the title against Jordynne Grace on 9/21, then this will officially be a championship match for Williams’ Powerbomb.TV Championship.

Bonestorm Championship: Dominic Garrini vs. Wheeler Yuta – Another big time marquee matchup for Dominic Garrini, who is having a standout year. The stuff with Curt Stallion was fantastic, and in June, he took on superstar Jeff Cobb at Streets of Hate. Next up, it’s another veritable superstar in Wheeler Yuta. Yuta is having a terrific year in his own right. So, this one figures to be fun.

A.J. Gray, Kerry Awful, and Tripp Cassidy vs. O’Shay Edwards, Brett Ison, and Curt Stallion – It’s the match we all hoped we’d get, and the match we haven’t stopped thinking about since Edwards, Ison, and Stallion destroyed Gray and The Carnies at Not Problematic. The events that unfolded were aptly and darkly named the “Music City Murders” by the media. But, it wasn’t just the violence that caught the audience off guard. It was the blatant disrespect to the entire state of Tennessee.

Gray, Awful, and Cassidy will attempt to enact a measure of revenge. I expect this one to be deeply personal, intense, and violent. I don’t know that this one’s going to qualify as a “wrestling match.” More so, it’s just going to be a fight. No titles or trophies – this one’s about pride, dignity, and respect.

All in all, this is yet another stacked card unlike anything else you’ll see in Nashville. We are returning as sponsors because every time we show up to a SUP show, we come away with what feels like a dozen new friends. I can’t recommend working with them enough – they have a strong brand identity, the type that marketers spend a lot of time and money trying to find. They’ve served us well, so if you’re an area company/podcast, reach out to them and find out how you can become a sponsor. It’s been well worth it to us. So, if you’re coming to the show, feel free to find the big burly guys in the ‘SoBros’ branded merch and say hey.

The fine braintrust at SUP has done it again.
