Chattanooga Week: BrewHaus Review

As many of you know, we made the daunted two-hour journey down to Chattanooga so that “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick could cover the Chattanooga Film Festival. But, while we were down there, we took the opportunity to try out some new spots and old favorites alike. It’s officially Chattanooga Week here on SoBros Network.

To be honest, Chattanooga Week isn’t really a fair fight. Since I stumbled into BrewHaus six years ago on a road trip with the SoBros First Lady, no place in Gig City has taken a hold of my heart the way that BrewHaus has. So, when we initially started talking about making “Chattanooga Week” a thing, I knew it was one of the restaurants in the city I wanted to profile.

While Nature Boy was attending the Chattanooga Film Festival, Cadbury and myself sneaked on over to BrewHaus for a a couple of beers and a big hearty meal. We weren’t disappointed in the least bit.

As for the brews, BrewHaus always has an extensive beer list chock full of options that are out of the ordinary variety. Of course, if you are in a pretty ordinary mood, you can always go with a Blue Moon or something of the sort. I tried the Black Abbey Porter and it was phenomenal. First time having it, but it was the perfect sippin’ beer.

Cadbury’s rooster schnitzel

Earlier in the day, we had loaded up at Tremont Tavern, Clumpies, and Cadbury even had a hot dog at Good Dog – all within a matter of an hour. So, I have no idea what being took hold of his soul and inspired him to order the giant ass pretzel and mustard trio as an appetizer, but he did. And, it was lovely. I can honestly say I’ve never seen a pretzel that big. It was warm, salty, and felt like it came fresh out of the oven.

Each mustard added a different dynamic. The cherry ale mustard was my favorite – a nice sweet start followed by the more traditional mustard finish. The horseradish mustard provided a nice kick, and the cider mustard was a nice balance in between. I don’t know how we did it, but we managed to eat most of the damned beast before our food arrived.

My spaetzle

For Cadbury, it was the rooster schnitzel – classic schnitzel with two over-easy eggs on top – with vinegar slaw and a veggie medley on the side. I tried something new – the spaetzle. The German noodle dish was prepared with onions, mushrooms, and a creamy pepper sauce. But, topped with a couple of brats and cherry tomatoes….it was Heaven on Earth. I always get the bier cabbage and the German potato salad on the side. Ol’ reliable. But, the portions were enormous.

Once I was able to gather my breath, I ordered a refreshing Diskin Cidery pineapple cider to polish off the delightful meal and experience.

Rating: 9/10. Honestly, it was the best meal I’ve had in a very long time. But, I feel like I say that every time we visit this place. Can’t stop in Chattanooga without hitting BrewHaus up.
