Chattanooga Week: Urban Stack Review

As many of you know, we made the daunted two-hour journey down to Chattanooga so that “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick could cover the Chattanooga Film Festival. But, while we were down there, we took the opportunity to try out some new spots and old favorites alike. It’s officially Chattanooga Week here on SoBros Network.

Chattanooga Week began, in earnest, last Friday when we made the daunting trek all the way from Nashville. It was our first day in town, and honestly, it was a little hectic. We didn’t have much time to sit down and plan out the day as we got into town and finished our City Cafe breakfast with just about 15 minutes to spare before Nature Boy had to be at the Chattanooga Film Festival. But, thankfully, we had an ace up our sleeves.

I first tried Urban Stack back in August of 2012. The SoBros First Lady and I had a nice little road trip down to Atlanta and were looking for a good dinner spot to try in Chattanooga on the way down. I was immediately impressed by their burger menu and whiskey list. Since then, we’ve made an effort to stop by every chance we get. So, when Nature Boy and I started tossing around ideas for places to review while we were down here, this spot immediately came to mind.

So, Nature Boy had a break in the film festival action from around 3:30PM-7:30PM. We moseyed on down a couple of blocks to Urban Stack to enjoy a hearty meal. Forgive us for the lack of photos and videos – Cadbury had prior obligations and couldn’t join us until Saturday, and we were trying to avoid the deluge of rainfall outside. Thankfully, Urban Stack’s site has plenty if you’re curious, and we definitely just ripped our featured image off of a Google images search.

#GinFriday, bay-bay

It’s a whiskey joint – I mentioned earlier that they have an extensive whiskey list. Not too many spots around Nashville that actually carry Chattanooga Whiskey, and I’m a fan, so that’s usually my go-to when we’re in town. But, since it was Friday – you know I had to maintain #GinFriday. I had a gin and tonic – but, Nature Boy partook in an Old Fashioned and raved about it. I’ve yet to have a bad cocktail in this place.

As for dinner, I elected to go with the Fried Green Tomato Burger – bacon, cheddar cheese, fried green tomato, a white vinegar mayo, and a remoulade, cooked medium well, and to perfection. I wanted to try something a little different for a side – thankfully, they had me covered with the fried chickpeas. Served ’em up in a little mason jar, and they were the perfect combination of hearty, savory, and crunchy. Can’t recall which burger Nature Boy went with, but I know he chose onion rings as his side and they looked amazing.

GO TIME

There was one point, well into the meal, when I noticed something smelled awful. It was like I got the brunt of a huge cloud of body odor. Didn’t really think much of it – it’s a crowded restaurant. But, then, Nature Boy says, “omg my napkin smells like B.O.” – So, I’m laughing….looking around…and realize it’s the food runner. He’s grabbing people silverware, handing ’em their food, etc. etc. Sure enough, he walks by and boom – I get a whiff of that signature B.O.. We chose to ignore that the rest of the meal.

Rating: 8/10. B.O. guy was more funny than anything…no harm, no foul to us rough-and-tumble hombres. Maybe you think otherwise, but it wasn’t too big a deal to us.
