I think the problem with debate today is that we’ve lost the touch to care about one another’s perspective thanks to the advent of social media. We’re no longer concerned citizens trying to collaborate in a healthy way to make the world a better place. Instead, we’re bitter enemies on opposite sides of vitriolic debate – and there are virtually no consequences to being an ass on the internet because of the threat of being open hand slapped in the face for being disrespectful. It’s absurd – I’m talkin’ about Democrats vs. Republicans, Jordan vs. LeBron, and of course, bone-in vs. boneless wings.

It’s like we’re unwilling to compromise….unwavering in our positions, and hell bent on not just disagreeing with the other side, but attempting to tear down their character and disrupt their livelihoods as well. It makes me sick. I was reminded of this phenomenon last week, when I saw this harmless tweet:

I laughed. As a boneless man myself…well…I mean that I sit on the side of the aisle with people who prefer boneless wings to bone-in wings…I’m not a man without a skeleton….I chuckled, celebrated this commonality with a fellow Tweeter, and then I moved on with my life. But, bone-in gang was out for blood.

And, it doesn’t make sense to me. This is a debate that has no real cons on either side. This is where we need to be mature, people. Bone-in wings are really good. Boneless wings are really good. You can’t go wrong.

We need to stop fighting each other over this issue.

Why do I prefer boneless wings? Well, it’s easy – I don’t like getting my hands all messy. You can eat boneless wings with a fork and you won’t have to go wash your hands 50 times to get the smell of the wing sauce of them. They’re just easier to eat. But, I’m willing to acknowledge that they are typically dryer than bone-in wings. Eating the meat off the bone is typically a more savory experience. I bear no ill will towards the bone-in wing.

I just think this is an opportunity for us to stop, take a look at how we argue with one another online, and make an effort to be better. That’s all.
