Last week, Roland Emmerich’s name popped up when it was announced that he’d be directing Moonfall, starring Halle Berry and Josh Gad, a film about the moon being knocked out of orbit and careening towards the Earth. Sound familiar? Yeah – Roland Emmerich is one of those filmmakers who have definitely built their own brand in Hollywood, and that brand would definitely be the disaster movie. Known for movies such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012, Emmerich has a knack for painting doom and gloom across the silver screen.

So, with his name popping up in the news, our resident film critic, Brandon Vick, and I decided this would be a good opportunity to dive into Emmerich’s filmography and discuss some of his biggest hits and misses.

Usually, whenever we do one of these profile episodes, we offer up our Mount Rushmore of the person’s career, but that proved difficult with Emmerich – so even though he’s had some serious blockbusters on his resumé (I mean, the man’s amassed $3B at the box office after all), I think it’s fair to ask….how many really good movies has he made? Brandon and I dive into the question on the latest episode of The Vick’s Flicks Podcast!
