Welcome in to a new feature we are trying out here on SoBros Network because we were recently approved to be on Google News (YUGE win, LFG), and I am testing whether or not it’s worth doing these sorts of power rankings for the SEO. Yes, that’s the entire basis for this set of College Football Power Rankings.

For me, the premise is simple – it’s about who’s had the most impressive body of work. Like Mose mentioned on an earlier episode of the College Football Roundup, it seems a tad whack that preseason rankings are factored into the College Football Playoff discussion at all. Just because someone was ranked #1 before the season started doesn’t mean they’re actually the best team in the country. My rankings will be based largely on quality wins. You’re about to see why I’m prefacing you to read that…

COLLEGE FOOTBALL POWER RANKINGS: WEEK 13 2019

1. LSU Tigers (10-0) – Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase went off against the Ole Miss Rebels in the 58-37 win. As a whole, the Tigers offense posted 714 yards of total offense. This team just feels like a ‘team of destiny’ – I don’t know that anybody is beating them this season. They host Arkansas this week.

2. Ohio State Buckeyes (10-0) – Ohio State also got to 10-0 this week, beating lowly Rutgers 56-21. No matter how you have ’em, it sure looks like LSU and Ohio State are clearly the two best teams in the nation this season. The Buckeyes finish the season with a huge game against #9 Penn State this weekend, and then at #15 Michigan to close the season.

3. Clemson Tigers (11-0) – Everything I’ve said this season about Clemson has rung true so far. They’re going to sleepwalk into the playoffs. They’re the first team to win 11 games this season, and by virtue of the SEC and Big Ten cannibalizing each other, are a virtual lock for one of the four spots. If Wake Forest was their last legitimate test, they sure didn’t look like it, as the Tigers ran them out of the stadium, 52-3. They’re off this week before wrapping things up at South Carolina on 11/30. No matter who they face in the ACC Championship, they should roll.

4. Georgia Bulldogs (9-1) – I’ve been skeptical of the Bulldogs all season, but even I can’t deny them anymore. They’ve earned two high quality wins in recent weeks against Florida and Auburn, but that loss to South Carolina is bad. They’ll have to win out to get a spot in the College Football Playoff. They host a sneaky good Texas A&M team on Saturday.

5. Alabama Crimson Tide (9-1) – Tua Tagovailoa is done for the year, meaning the Tide will have to win out with Mac Jones at the helm if it has any hopes of sneaking into the top four. That won’t be an easy task – sure, they get Western Carolina at home this week. But, this year’s Iron Bowl is going to be very interesting.

6. Oregon Ducks (9-1) – I am buying the Ducks as a legitimate playoff contender. I put Alabama ahead of ’em by a hair because the Tide’s one loss is a little bit better than the Ducks’ one loss. After a 34-6 romp of Arizona, the Ducks are comfortably in control of their own destiny. They travel to Arizona State this weekend in a game they can’t slip up in.

7. Penn State Nittany Lions (9-1) – I still like the balance of this Penn State team, and don’t sleep on this Indiana Hoosiers team. That was a quality win. They get their crack at Ohio State this weekend in a massive game with not only Big Ten Championship ramifications, but College Football Playoff ramifications as well.

8. Oklahoma Sooners (9-1) – Man, what do you do with the Sooners if they win out? What a gutsy comeback win against Baylor. It seems like it’s Sugar Bowl or bust for the Big 12, but if a couple of dominos fall a certain way, Jalen Hurts and company could end up back in the CFP discussion.

9. Utah Utes (9-1) – Utah absolutely crushed UCLA, 49-3, on Saturday, thus ending any miracle hopes of a Pac-12 South title for the Bruins. With Arizona this week, and Colorado in the final week of the season, the Utes ought to go ahead and book their travel for the Pac-12 Championship.

10. Florida Gators (9-2) – The Missouri Tigers presented little in the way of opposition to the Gators, whose only losses of the season have come at the hands of LSU and Georgia. They’re off this week before wrapping the season up against Florida State. Two losses or not, I’d put this team up against anybody in the country.

BEST OF THE REST

ACC: I’ll be damned – there’s another ACC team in the AP Top 25. The Virginia Tech Hokies are 5-1 since getting rocked by Duke. Right now, the Virginia Cavaliers would be the team to challenge Clemson in the ACC Championship, but the Hokies will get a chance to play it out on the field as those two teams meet in the final week of the season.

Big 12: Baylor will likely get another crack at Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship, but don’t sleep on the #22-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys and their opportunity to cause havoc in the Big 12 when they host the Sooners on 11/30.

Big Ten: The Wisconsin Badgers will get a chance to play their way back into the Big Ten Championship thanks to Iowa’s win over Minnesota. The Badgers and Golden Gophers play to end the season.

Pac-12: The USC Trojans are clearly the third best team in the Pac-12, but this race is over, folks. It’s Oregon, it’s Utah, or it’s bust for the Pac-12.

SEC: The Texas A&M Aggies have quietly crept back into the AP Top 25, and have a chance to really throw a wrench into the College Football Playoff race when they play Georgia this weekend. Outside of that, the level of play dips off tremendously in the SEC, an unusual down year for the overall depth of the conference.

Group of Five: As much as I love what’s going on in the American Athletic Conference this year, those teams are going to end up beating each other en route to the AAC Championship. The Boise State Broncos have the easiest path to the Cotton Bowl.

Wild Card: I still say the Michigan Wolverines have an outside chance of wreaking havoc and defeating Ohio State at the conclusion of the season. Call me crazy, but they’ve quietly crept back up to #12 in the AP Top 25.
