Tank the 401k: Personal Growth Edition

Welcome all degenerate gamblers back into my weekly American football column, Tank the 401k. Here, I will divulge all my eagle-eyed opinions on the upcoming week. Call your bookie and empty those retirement accounts (actually, don’t really do that – this is just sarcasm. My lawyers say I shouldn’t claim to be an expert on anything)!

Three 49ers points away from a perfect week last week has me feelin’ pretty damn good. Also, NOT picking obscure college football games that drew my eye because of the brands involved and not the actual football teams has me feeling a little wiser. Maybe I have finally learned my lesson here.

That’s what we’re all about here, folks. Growth as a person. Developing humans to be better humans. That’s what #BeBetter is all about. And, I like to think that my story of triumph from 2-3 last week to 4-1 this week has helped at least one of the…like…40 people who actually read this column every week. Thank you and I wish you nothing but the best.

Anyway, let’s get into this week’s picks.

BIG NATURAL’S TANK THE 401K PICKS

NCAAF: Cal -4.5 vs. Arizona State – I’m ridin’ with the Golden Bears again this week. I just love what they do on defense, and think this is going to be a confident bunch after traveling across the country to beat a game Ole Miss squad. Arizona State’s offense just hasn’t looked prolific in their 3-1 start. I’m expecting a 17-9 type of win here for Cal.

NFL: Green Bay -4 vs. Philadelphia – This just looks like a mismatch. The Eagles have been allowing 300 yards passing this season, and now they have to go on the road to face Aaron Rodgers. Not to mention that Packers defense is playing lights out. Wouldn’t have seen this coming, but I like the Packers by a touchdown (at least) at home tonight.

NFL: Washington @ New York, OVER 49.5 – I don’t want to bite on that Giants -3 spread because it might just be an overreaction to last week and Washington has actually been competitive in games this season. But, these are two bad defenses goin’ at it. Both are allowing over 30 points per game. So, this could be a high scoring affair given each offense has proven capable of putting points on the board.

NFL: Atlanta -4 vs. Tennessee – In terms of yardage allowed, these two defenses are quite comparable. So, I think the UNDER (45.5) is a sneaky attractive pick here, too. I just don’t trust the Titans to slow down that Matt Ryan to Julio Jones connection. Two big plays is all it took for the Jags to go up 14-0 and never look back last week. It won’t be any easier for the Titans with Ryan and Jones.

NFL: Carolina +4 @ Houston – Feels like the Arizona Cardinals were just what the Panthers needed to find their way. They’re going to ride their bell cow, Christian McCaffrey, against this Texans defense that has given up some yardage to guys like Alvin Kamara and Keenan Allen this season.

W-L Record: (2-1)
Last Week: (4-1)
On the Season: (10-5-0) – 67%
