New South: Alpha One Recap

We’ve been aiming to get to New South for a while now, but with a card featuring Curt Stallion vs. Tyler Matrix, Violence is Forever and the legendary Cabana Man Dan, we were not missing this show. We hit up a couple of the local sights and attractions before meeting up with Ben at the DeKalb Theater.

Pre show Match: Lights Cameron Action vs. Julius Pryor- This was a sprint of a pre-show match, y’all. Two young guys going out and tearing it up is always a solid pre-show choice. This was my introduction to both guys and I gotta say I liked what I saw. Julius Pryor has a hell of a look plus some some really slick moves. Big moments from both guys before Action could secure the win.

Baron Black vs. Kevin Ryan- I’ve seen Kevin before (and am a fan) but when Baron Black came out to ‘Hate Me Now’ my allegiance was locked up. These two put on a show and earned Haley’s MOTN honor which is always something to hang your hat on. Solid work from both men with so many close calls leading to a hell of sequence for the finish. Baron Black gets a hard fought win with both men showing respect to one another post-match. With the win, Black and Fred Yehi locked up a spot in the TLC Tag Team Championship match at New South’s next show.

Tag Team Championship: Akuto Death Society (c) vs. Violence is Forever– My biggest takeaways from this match: Violence is Forever fucking fucks and Donnie Primetime is hilarious. We started things off with Donnie doing what he could with the Violence bois, but that’s a tough code to crack….meaning Dom and Ku beat on Primetime (including a gnarly package piledriver courtesy of Garrini). It really felt like we were gonna see new champs crowned especially after a SICK ‘Total Elimination’ from Violence is Forever. Donnie and Chris somehow survive through it all and retain the tag titles.

Cabana Man Dan vs. Adam Priest vs. Ty Sutton vs. Britt Jackson- This had a lot going on, y’all. Britt is an absolute savage that does something to wow me every time I see him in action. Ty Sutton and Adam Priest both brought the fight and had some really fun moments throughout. When it appeared that Britt may end things, Derek Neal appeared on the screen with some not-so-nice things to say about Britt. This had The Mongrel in a frenzy as he ditched the match and headed backstage to find Neal. With Jackson out of the way the remaining three competitors really cut loose. CMD gets a hard fought win, but shoutout to all four guys for doing the damn thing.

Dump Sanders, Brandon Williams and Shean Christopher vs. ‘Hot Tamale’ Daniel Perez and the Thunderchild Security– This was an impromptu ‘Randy Owen Deathmatch’ though it was really more of a ‘Randy Owen Street Fight.’ Still, the crowd lost their mind when these dudes started beating the shit out of each other while ‘Mountain Music’ blared though the speakers. The six quickly made their way to a side room where Dump was chucking fools like it ain’t no thang. They eventually make their way make to ringside minus one of the Thunderchild Security dudes who made his way to the top of the bleachers and came off like a tank top at a SoBros party. Dump, Brandon, and Shean get the win in an insane co-main event.

New South Heavyweight Championship: Tyler Matrix (c) vs. Curt Stallion–  None of you will be surprised to hear this was really, really, really good. Curt is the mo fucking guy and Tyler is getting better every single time I see him, which is really saying something. This had it all. Everything Curt throws has a little something on it, but Tyler took every lick and kept going. Seriously, this had so many momentum shifts. I lost track of all the false finishes that had the audience holding their breath, probably due to a lack of oxygen. Matrix finally gets the 1-2-3 and retains his title, but this is worth searching out once the video hits.

This may have been my first New South show, but it sure as hell won’t be the last. Great action, great fans, and solid matches from start to finish. I gotta shout out the New South production crew as the video packages were awesome especially in the theater setting. New South will be back in action on July 6th as they present ‘Americana’ down in Moulton, Alabama.
