Podcast: The History of the X-Men Franchise

It’s hard to believe that the X-Men movie franchise is nearly 20 years old at this point. When the first X-Men movie hit theaters in 2000, who would’ve seen such a lifespan coming? This weekend, it all comes to a close with the release of Dark Phoenix.

On the latest episode of Brandon’s Box Office In Your Mouth, the star of the show, “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick, joined me to relive the history of this franchise from 2000 all the way up to 2018’s Deadpool 2.

It’s essentially set up as a set of trilogies….that first X-Men trilogy, the ‘First Class’ trilogy, and the Wolverine trilogy. We chat about what they did right in the early years of this franchise, what they did wrong, and how oddly inconsistent the movies have been.

Of course, we offer up our favorites of the entire franchise history, and we wrap up with a quick preview of Dark Phoenix and Brandon offers his insight on what he’s sensing in terms of quality and in terms of box office impact.
