The SoBros Team’s Favorite Christmas Memories

‘Tis the season for Christmas #CONTENT, am I right? This one’s a little near and dear to our hearts, as some of our regular contributors banded together to hash out some of our favorite Christmas memories. LFG.

“Big Natural” Stoney Keeley

I was very fortunate to grow up in a household with two loving parents who made me feel like I could do anything in the world I wanted to. Of course, it helped that I was an only child, which made for bigger Christmases for me! There’s so many memories I have of Christmas Eves and Christmas mornings, that I don’t know where to even start.

But, I’ll share the first one that came to mind. I was maybe five….seven years old…super into Ninja Turtles back when it was the heyday of Ninja Turtle toys. I remember feeling anxious on that Christmas Eve because I didn’t know if Santa Claus knew which action figures and play sets to bring me. All night, I tossed and turned and I remember waking up in the middle of the night and crawling to the edge of the stairs, peeking down into the darkness to see if I could catch a glimpse of the man in action. Of course, I didn’t.

The next morning, I came barreling down the stairs to find that not only did Santa bring me virtually every action figure I asked for, but I got the big Technodrome:

AND, I also got the old Ninja Turtles van, too:

I can still remember of feeling these things out and waiting for me in the living room that fateful Christmas morning. I got everything I asked for and then some.

Cadbury Pringlebatch

Not a memory of any specific gift, but more of a tradition that lasted several years. What started as a way for my parents to be alerted if we tried to peek at our presents too early on Christmas morning, turned into a yearly booby-trap setup by my father. These varied throughout the years and began with simple, homemade creations, but eventually led to motion sensor alarms.

My favorite and most painful trap came from the year he setup a trip-wire attached to empty coke cans. The intention was for the cans to rattle with the movement of the wire. My older brothers, far more skilled than myself at the time, detected the trap. But did they tell me? No. Instead, they woke me with frantic excitement and coerced me into running as fast as I could for the presents. At full speed, my right ankle caught the trip-wire, which lived up to its name, and sent me face first into living room floor. Fun times.

“Nature Boy” Brandon Vick

I remember getting Mario game for N64 one year, but I didn’t have an N64. I was obviously confused and sorta pissed. But, later on, as a nice little surprise, I was given one final gift…an N64!!!

All was right that Christmas night.
