Marko Stunt Wins the 2018 SoBros Wrestling MVP Award

Marko Stunt (read: #TheGuy) has had one hell of a 2018. His meteoric rise began late in the summer, but fans of Southern Underground Pro noticed Stunt’s talent and charisma quite a while ago. Not to mention, he has a sense of humor and nice guy charm that simply causes folks to gravitate towards him. Now, he can add ‘MVP’ to his list of accolades on the year.

The 2018 SoBros Network Awards were voted on in October of 2018. The polls were open to anyone with the link, and hundreds of people cast their ballot. Over the course of the next couple of days, we will be announcing the recipients of all of our wrestling awards, our Best of Nashville awards, and most importantly, SoBro of the Year. So, stay tuned!

For me, it was SCI weekend, back at the beginning of August, when I first noticed that Stunt was really gaining some traction on the independent scene. He competed in the SCI Futures Showcase, a tournament he would subsequently win. Then, the following day, he and Cabana Man Dan would compete against No New Friends at SUP in Nashville. That weekend, anyone who wasn’t already a fan of Stunt became one. To this day, thinking about Stunt tagging in Dan gives me goosebumps. That has to be the loudest the SUP crowd has ever been. That’s when it clicked – that, “holy shit – he’s got something here” moment. Stunt was kind enough to lend me his time for an interview after SCI – judging by the pageviews that piece got, it’s safe to say he stirred up a wealth of interest after that weekend.

In the following weeks and months, Stunt would show up at Joey Janela’s Lost In New York. He wrestled in front of over 11,000 people at All In. He popped up at MLW events, and even earned a spot in PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles, wrestling Trevor Lee in the first round. Back in Nashville, he won SUP’s Bonestorm Championship at Don’t Look in the Basement East.

I can’t recall seeing a guy get so red hot so quickly. To say Stunt had a successful, accomplished 2018 would be an understatement. You guys obviously recognized that and voted for him.

Here’s how the voting concluded:

1. Marko Stunt – 29.4%
2. Brett Ison – 23.5%
3. Kevin Ku – 17.6%
4. Allie Kat, Joey Lynch – 11.8%

Stunt even made it to the Andes thanks to our guy Cadbury:

Stunt recently suffered a broken leg that is going to keep him sidelined for quite a while. Show some support during this trying time by hitting up his store on What A Maneuver and buying a shirt or 50.

To Marko, I’d say the whole SoBros team adores you. We’re all wishing you a speedy recovery, my friend. In the meantime, if there’s anything we can do for you, don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for putting your body on the line for the sake of our entertainment, thank you for your time over the summer, and thank you for all the handshakes and hugs along the way – it’s obvious that people recognize your work and respect the person you are. We’re all rooting for you, big man.
