Soccer Dad of the Year Helps Goalie Save the Day

It’s a constant struggle that all of us with children face (I’m just assuming I have one somewhere). Your kid is struggling to pick up on something, and you just don’t know whether you should step in with your adultly wisdom and experience. It’s a tough row to hoe sometimes and can either be a useful teaching moment, or it can blow up in your face. Thankfully for this soccer dad, things could NOT have worked out better:

I don’t know about you guys, but I just absolutely love heart-warming sports content like this. It’s like watching a child riding a motorcycle at age three without the training wheels. Just such a big moment in this kid’s life, and his dad was there to cheer him on and give him the encouragement he needed.

I imagine this moment went something like this – the kick comes in hot and fast, the goalie is sweating, indecisive and lacking confidence. The goalie looks up to the stands, or in this case, just approximately three feet to his right, sees dad. Dad gives him the thumbs up, maybe even has watering eyes. Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, his muscle memory takes over and he just so happens to fall right out in front of the ball, blocking it.

It’s as if he’s not in control of his own body at all.

But, this little one learned a valuable lesson. You can’t just leap onto the ball and not expect someone else to get the rebound. Like, you have to get up off the ground. I understand how you could feel, though – you just made what is probably the save of your life, all of your own free will and volition, you’re probably thinking, “there’s no way they can make a play after that.” But, you have to learn how to finish.

Dad isn’t always going to be around to shove you in the way of the ball at the last minute when you are completely unprepared for it.
