Bill Belichick Is a Big Time Nashville Guy

I’m a big fan of greatness. That’s why I love watching Bill Belichick coach the New England Patriots. I may catch some flack for that here in Nashville, but that’s just the unmitigated truth. Belichick is known for being a bit of prickly guy in press conferences, but I’ve always heard nothing but good things about the man away from football. You just have to understand that he’s not going to do or say anything that is even remotely going to give his opponent any sort of advantage whatsoever.

If you didn’t already know, Belichick was actually born in Nashville, and it turns out, the Music City holds a very special place in his heart.

Belichick also sang the praises of the Nashville area, where he shares a home with his long-time girlfriend. Belichick was born in Nashville in 1952, when his father was an assistant coach at Vanderbilt. He once ran in the half-marathon in town, and is a frequent visitor during the offseason.

“I actually do get back there,” Belichick said. “I get down to Tootsies. … It’s a great town, a great atmosphere. Linda (Holliday) and I have a place in Franklin. She’s from Brentwood, so we know the area pretty well. We’re getting to know it even better. We just love the people and love the atmosphere down there. I’ve gone over to Puckett’s, it’s a great area. We love the people down there.

“I can’t pull for them this week, but every other week I’m always – between Mike (Vrabel), Jon (Robinson), and Dean (Pees), and the people that are down there at the Titans – it’s great ownership there between the front office and coaching. I have a lot of respect for that organization. Like I said, Vanderbilt is where my dad coached, Nashville where I was born, has a bit of – certainly a lot of good vibes and sentiments from Nashville and the Tennessee area.”

See, y’all dog Belichick, but he’s just a big sweetie. People are tired of seeing the same old stuff (the Pats winning) and see his frumpy press conferences and assume he’s an asshole. But, that’s not the case. Furthermore, he’s actually a big time Nashville guy!

But, can you imagine running into this man in Tootsie’s on a Friday night? What is that conversation like? Or, do you just leave him alone? I’m not sure, but I can certainly say that Broadway is the LAST place in town I’d expect to see Bill freakin’ Belichick.

And, he’s a fan of Puckett’s?

Bill, my dude! The redneck burrito is one of the my favorite delicacies in town. How have we not capitalized on this? How have we not gotten Belichick on local sports talk or television in the offseason yet? Is it because he’s enjoying wine at his vacation home in Martha’s Vineyard? I don’t know, but it seems like something we need ASAP.

People like to joke about the Titans becoming “Patriots South,” but let’s not act like that’s a bad thing. This man is the #DoYourJob GSD champion and we could all learn a thing or two about accountability and organization from him.

I will continue being a Bill Belichick fan regardless of what societal pressures I may face. Actually, now that I know what a big fan he is of our town, I’m even more of a fan.

That said, Titan up.
