Let’s face it – every day we are routinely bombarded with questions. When you’re an emerging media company in Nashville, people just want to know what your opinions are on everything. It’s only natural. And, since our duty is to serve the people, well, we have no choice but to be present. That’s the SoBro Way. Also, aren’t mailbags just a barrel of laughs anyway? Welcome to the newest weekly recurring feature up in this bitch: The SoBros Mailbag. As always, use #SoBrosMailbag to hit us up on Twitter.

Question:

Answer:

The food is just one of many contributing factors to my love for Thanksgiving. I’m honestly not even that big of a fan of Thanksgiving food – I never eat turkey. About the only thing I go hard on that I don’t typically eat is the green bean casserole. But, it’s a lot of things – it’s the weather, the time away from work, watching football all day, and most importantly, family. I have a decent sized family, and it’s really the only time of the year that everyone has a few days off of work and we spend it all together.

We have a ton of odd Thanksgiving traditions – the Wednesday before, we watch the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special, then on Thanksgiving night, we all scout the Black Friday ads and make our game plan for the big day. Sometimes, we’ll venture out to Providence in Mount Juliet just to people watch and scope out all the Thanksgiving night madness. But, for the most part, we just sit around being lazy.

Then, we wake up at 5AM and meet again…usually, at the Target in Smyrna. Truth be told, we knock out a good 90% of our Christmas shopping there because NO ONE goes to that Target. Then, we grab lunch, and head to Murfreesboro to knock out that remaining 10%. It’s a long day, but it’s been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. I simply do not remember life before Black Friday shopping with my family.

On the night of Black Friday, it’s time to take a break from the family stuff to get together with my closest friends. For all but one year since 2003, we’ve had a “SoBros” sleepover. We gather at one of our houses, everyone wears pajamas, everyone brings a breakfast dish (at that point in the week, everyone’s had their fill of the traditional Thanksgiving food, so brinner has been the way to go as long as we’ve been hosting this event). We drink, we play board games, and we watch Christmas movies. It is, quite simply, the most delightful get-together of the year.

Saturday is usually reserved for the Iron Bowl in my family. Finally, the weekend wraps up on Sunday with us getting the family Christmas tree to put up at my mother’s place and (usually) watch the Titans.

It’s a lot in a few days, but those five days are usually the five days I look forward to the most each and every year. That’s what Thanksgiving means to me.

Question:

Answer:

Honestly, Brent – the thought hasn’t even crossed my mind, but you’re right. It’s been a full year since that initial post was written. So, maybe it is time to revisit it. I’m going to add it to my idea bank.

Question:

Answer:

Oh, this is tricky, Armondo. Really, it depends on what kind of movie we’re going to make. Are we going to make a glorified version of Jackass that focuses on our content? Is it going to be a spotlight on grown ass men struggling to eat gross candy canes? Or, are we going to do a drama highlighting the work this team has put in to get to this point? Is it going to be a peek behind the curtain that shows how serious we are about the business and the lengths to which we’ve gone to build it? That’s going to heavily influence my decisions – but, since we like to keep things light, that’s just how I’m going to approach this question.

I feel like John Goodman would make a damn good “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley, and that could honestly apply to either comedy or drama. Brandon would kill me if I didn’t cast Jack Nicholson to play him, but honestly, it fits pretty well. Tom Hanks would play Poppa Bear. Robert Duvall would play Cadbury. Mose is definitely a Christopher Walken role. Herbie Brooks is Michael Caine. I have no idea why I’m only casting older men to play us, but holy shit – what a cast this would be, huh? Oh, and Jodie Foster would play Rooster.

Question:

Answer:

This is just the type of question the SoBros Mailbag was invented for, Greg. So, I appreciate your imagination. For me, this one’s about brand recognition. Who became larger than life? Who was a bigger brand than the cereal itself?

5. Toucan Sam – Gotta give a shout out to the godfather of Froot Loops.
4. Snap, Crackle, and Pop – Those motherfuckers made me love Rice Krispies so I could hear my cereal making noise.
3. Count Chocula – I don’t even remember liking the cereal, but I always wanted it because of the damn vampire.
2. Tony the Tiger – Probably the G.O.A.T. in a lot of people’s minds, he even had a big catchphrase to go with his lengthy career.
1. Cap’n Crunch – When I say Cap’n Crunch, do you even think of the cereal? I don’t – I think of that little blue cartoon captain.

Question:

Answer:

I don’t know how to specifically define ‘pregame songs,’ Phil, and either way, I don’t go to many games, so I wouldn’t know them all that well. But, I did go to a Titans game recently and the team ran out to Stone Cold Steve Austin’s entrance music. So, I would like to choose that one for all three of my answers.

Question:

Answer:

“Well my dear foreign friend, they are still used, just not as effectively as you remember. I feel like rom-coms really put a damper on them. A lot of times they tend to be more lazy and just trying to force the story forward. They ain’t all beautiful and emotionally impactful as the one in UP! I hope this answered your question. PS: Scarface is highly overrated.” -BV
