Big Natural’s Best of the NFL: Week 6, 2018

NFL Week 6 2018 is now in the books, so it’s time for your boy “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley to take a look back and sort out the best, or most hilarious, moments from the week that was.

Best of NFL Week 6 2018

Yeesh – another wild week in the NFL. I’ve been battling a cold for the last several days, Sunday included, so it was the first Sunday of the season that I literally did nothing but sit in my recliner and watch football for about 10 straight hours. It was splendid – minus the whole sneezing and coughing and shit. Nonetheless, we have highlights to hit – so, what did we learn about the NFL this week?

Your current stat leaders are:

  • Passing Yards: Ben Roethlisberger (2,033)
  • Passing TDs: Patrick Mahomes (18)
  • Rushing Yards: Todd Gurley (623)
  • Rushing TDs: Todd Gurley (9)
  • Receiving Yards: Adam Thielen (712)
  • Receiving TDs: Davante Adams, Antonio Brown, Eric Ebron, Tyreek Hill, Calvin Ridley (6)
  • Sacks: J.J. Watt, Danielle Hunter (7)
  • Interceptions: Eight players tied (3)

Chiefs-Patriots was an instant classic

Was anyone else out of breath watching Sunday Night Football a couple nights ago? That was nuts – 43-40, 83 combined points. Both Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes over 300 yards. Kareem Hunt with 185 total yards. Sony Michel went over 100 rushing yards. Then, you had Tyreek Hill’s insane seven catch, 142 yards, and three touchdowns performance. Yeah, was glad to have him and Michel in my starting lineup on the fantasy team this week.

Still, we learned a couple of very important things. First, the road to the Super Bowl still goes through New England out of the AFC. They reminded us of just how capable they are of winning big games. We had no reason to be concerned over their slow start, as has been the case for the last 50 years. We talked a lot about a “lack of weapons” on the Pats offense, but look at how well James White and Rob Gronkowski played last night. Plus, they have Julian Edelman back, and Josh Gordon and Michel are developing into big play potential. This Pats offense could get real scary real quick.

Second, these Chiefs have some gumption. The Pats started to run away with this game, but they hung around and made it a game. Mahomes is still firmly entrenched in the 2018 MVP conversation, and this Chiefs team just looks different with him at the helm than it has in the past. These are clearly the two best teams in the AFC, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see it come down to these two with a Super Bowl berth on the line in January.

The New York Giants are imploding

It’s evident that it’s time for Eli Manning to find himself a change of scenery. This Giants team is in the act of implosion – I mean, they have all the talent in the world and they just keep losing games. Maybe it’s time for a total reset in the Big Apple. That 34-13 loss to a mediocre divisional rival stings…big time…

The Giants are 19th in total offense and 27th in points per game. They’re 18th in total defense and 24th in points allowed. They’re calling out each other in the media…cutting players…it seems like this team is at a crossroads for sure.

There is no excuse for a team this talented to be this bad.

Coincidentally, the Oakland Raiders look like it too…

Jon Gruden was paid $100 million to come in and fix this team, and at this point, he looks like a fish out of water. Is it possible the NFL has passed him by? Meanwhile, it looks like Derek Carr is a broken, broken man:

This is the worst team in the AFC.

The Chargers are quietly sneaking into top five territory

Their only two losses came at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams. They’ve strung together three straight wins, and look like they could pile up five more before the going gets tough. They’ll close the season with games against the Steelers, Bengals, Chiefs, and Ravens before closing the season in Denver. That’s a pretty brutal AFC gauntlet, but they could nonetheless be heading into that stretch at 9-2. The Chargers are a quiet contender for the AFC crown.

11 fucking sacks

You’ve got to be kidding me, right? The Baltimore Ravens had more sacks than Marcus Mariota had completions on Sunday. It was a Ravens franchise record and only one sack shy of tying the NFL all-time record. Just a miserable performance by the Titans.

Maybe Washington is legit

A big win for the R-Words who are relying on old guys to GSD (get shit done). The NFC looks like it’s going to be an absolute crap shoot – the only team I’m officially counting out of the race is the aforementioned Giants. Otherwise, the Cowboys seem to be getting going and the Eagles are back to .500, too. This is going to be something to watch, but Washington’s win over the Carolina Panthers was one that went a long way in establishing their credibility in the division.

Who’s the best?

My quick NFL Power Rankings for the week:

  1. Los Angeles Rams
  2. New Orleans Saints
  3. New England Patriots
  4. Kansas City Chiefs
  5. Chicago Bears
  6. Los Angeles Chargers
  7. Baltimore Ravens
  8. Carolina Panthers
  9. Cincinnati Bengals
  10. Miami Dolphins
  11. Washington Redskins

Current Super Bowl Prediction: Los Angeles vs. New England
Current AFC Championship Prediction: Kansas City vs. New England
Current NFC Championship Prediction: Los Angeles vs. New Orleans
Current NFL MVP Favorite: Todd Gurley
