Big Natural’s 2018 NFL Playoff Predictions

With the 2018 season set to officially kick off tomorrow night when the Atlanta Falcons visit the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, I figured now was the time to get my official 2018 NFL playoff predictions out there, so LFG.

Big Natural’s 2018 NFL Playoff Predictions

AFC East: It has to be the New England Patriots until further notice. If Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are still together in 2030, the answer to this question is still going to be the New England Patriots. But, I actually think the Pats lucked out this year. Questions surrounding the franchise won’t have an effect on the 2018 season because the rest of the division figures to be mediocre at best.

AFC North: Conventional wisdom says to pick the Pittsburgh Steelers here, and they’re just too talented to roll with anyone else. But, I think the Cincinnati Bengals will sneak up on some people this year, and the Cleveland Browns will be an interesting team to watch. The Baltimore Ravens are close to a full-on rebuild mode, but have the talent to make a playoff run. All things considered, you just can’t go with anyone other than the Steelers.

AFC South: Look at what the Houston Texans were before that barrage of injuries derailed their 2017. They get back Deshaun Watson at quarterback and J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus on defense. The offensive line figures to be terrible, but every team in this division has a glaring weakness. It could be the most competitive in the entire NFL.

AFC West: Had the Los Angeles Chargers made the playoffs a season ago, they may have done some real damage. This year, they don’t get off to such a slow start. That defense is one of the best blossoming defenses in the NFL, and the offense is loaded with talent. Not only do I think they win the division, I think they get one of the first round byes.

AFC Wild Card #1: Kansas City Chiefs
AFC Wild Card #2: Jacksonville Jaguars
In the hunt: Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals

NFC East: The gap is going to be a lot closer in the NFC East this year, but the Philadelphia Eagles are still the big dogs on the block. The Giants and Cowboys will be more competitive in 2018, but the Eagles still have all the tools to go on another run.

NFC North: Like the Jaguars, a lot of things went right for the Minnesota Vikings in 2017. It’s hard to expect a similar level of production two years in a row. I like the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears in the future, but 2018 is going to be about the Green Bay Packers and the return of Aaron Rodgers.

NFC South: It’s going to be another sprint between the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons as I expect the Carolina Panthers to drop out of the race in 2018. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could surprise, but I think this division’s truly a two-team race. The Saints get the edge, as they’re shaping up to be the most complete team in the NFL.

NFC West: I like the moves the Los Angeles Rams made in the offseason, but I also like the division they’re playing in. Not sure I’m ready to fully buy in on the 49ers just yet, the Cardinals are still middling, and the Seahawks are starting to decline. That definitely favors the Rams.

NFC Wild Card #1: Atlanta Falcons
NFC Wild Card #2: New York Giants
In the hunt: Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions

AFC Championship: The Los Angeles Chargers defeat the New England Patriots
NFC Championship: The New Orleans Saints defeat the Los Angeles Rams
Super Bowl LIII: The New Orleans Saints defeat the Los Angeles Chargers.

BOOM – book it.
