Taywan Taylor Is Picking up Momentum at Titans Training Camp

Whether it’s Mike Vrabel/Matt LaFleur figuring out how to use him, or Taywan Taylor simply developing and adjusting to the NFL game, something seems to have clicked for the second year wide receiver. The former Western Kentucky Hilltopper and third round draft pick is having a pretty good training camp so far. Granted, it’s only been a little less than a week, but it’s still encouraging for a receiving corps that is looking around for play-makers.

When he was drafted last year, the general consensus was that he was going to be a slot guy. Why? I don’t really remember, to be honest. But, Taylor was incredibly productive at Western Kentucky, and he’s much bigger than the prototypical slot guy. Whether it was Mike Mularkey or Terry Robiskie, they didn’t really seem too committed to feeding Taylor anyway. If we never see another jet sweep to Taylor, it’ll be too soon.

But, Paul Kuharsky made an interesting observation in camp the other day:

That sure sounds like a coaching staff that is willing to give Taylor a fair shake. I don’t know that he got that last season. I mean, I’m not in the room, obviously, but it sure seemed like the previous regime really didn’t know what to do with Taylor. At least, maybe they didn’t know what they truly had with the guy. Is it coincidence that the new staff starts lining him up outside and he’s suddenly showing out? Maybe. But, I feel like it’s more indicative of Taylor’s dynamic potential in this system.

Aside from how he’s being used, Taylor is also getting a nice opportunity for tons of reps considering Rishard Matthews is on the PUP with some sort of mysterious injury.

Things sure seem to be lining up nicely for him as he gains momentum throughout training camp. And, he’s just flat out making plays, plain and simple.

If he keeps capitalizing on this opportunity, Taylor could be a force in 2018. With Corey Davis and Rishard Matthews likely to draw a lot of attention from opposing defenses, he could stand to have a breakout season of his own.
