Shaq Is Coming to Nashville As ‘DJ Diesel’ and I Am Here for It

Say what you will about Shaq, but that guy is as savvy an entertainer as anyone out there. Michael Jordan gets all the credit for being a marketing wizard, but Shaq is up there with the best of ’em in terms of branding. The man is just pure electricity anywhere he goes. And, as announced a couple of days ago, one of those places he’ll be going is RIGHT HERE in Nashville, Tennessee, pals.

The previously announced Breakaway Festival — taking place in Nashville this October — just added an unexpected name to its lineup.

That name is Shaquille O’Neal. Or rather, “DJ Diesel.”

The retired NBA great will be bringing his DJ skills to Breakaway, which hits Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park on Oct. 5-6. Shaq was added to the bill on Tuesday along with new additions Griz and Sheck Wes.

They’ll join a lineup topped by “Black and Yellow” and “See You Again” rapper Wiz Khalifa, plus young rap phenom Lil Pump, Illenium, Russ, 3LAU, Gryffin, Lil Skies, NGHTMRE, Quinn XCII, Justin Caruso, Nashville’s own Mike Floss and Shaun Frank.

Love it – I haven’t heard of this festival, but I’m in. Let’s go. LFG.

You’re telling me that one of the most dominant big men in NBA history is coming to a festival with his turntables? A champion of men who happens to be the walking embodiment of comedy gold? Come on – what’s there to think about?

I mean, Shaq is the same man that brought us Kazaam. And, you know what we got with Kazaam, right? That crazy theory about a Sinbad movie that never actually existed.

He also single-handedly put Icy Hot on the map. Now, thanks to him, I know where to turn when my back hurts. Icy to dull the pain. Hot to relax it away. ICY HOT, MOTHERFUCKERS.

Hell, the guy’s even stepped foot in a WWE ring on numerous occasions, and we STILL might get that ‘Shaq vs. Big Show’ match on down the line.

Attending this festival is the least I could do for Shaq after all of the entertainment he’s provided us over the years as a basketball player, actor, spokesman, and musician. I hope you’ll go with me.
