WWE Extreme Rules 2018: Results and Match Ratings

Extreme Rules 2018 emanated live from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s one of the more fun shows on the WWE calendar, and this show features a pretty refreshing card with a lot of potential. As usual, let’s not waste any time and dig in.

Kickoff Show

Andrade Cien Almas def. Sin Cara – I thought this match might have happened last month at Money in the Bank, but nah. Instead, we get it a month later. I said it a while ago, but I think Almas has all-time Intercontinental/United States Championship type material. And, I’m going to go ahead and say it – that sumbitch wears a pair of gold pants better than Seth Rollins. I am amazed that Sin Cara has stuck around this long in WWE, but it may be like Haku in WCW. People are afraid to fire the guy because he might just beat their ass. Almas goes over with the hammerlock DDT. Pretty standard stuff here from these two with a couple of clunky spots. But, overall it wasn’t NOT enjoyable. Rating: 5/10.

Tables Match: Sanity def. New Day – We get our first foray into the “extreme” with a tables match that should be pretty fun. Nice little spot where Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston hit sentons in stereo over the top rope to the outside, followed by a suicide dive from Killian Dain. The match ends when Alexander Wolfe bites Kingston’s face, and I guess…he’s…trying to pull him off the apron when Eric Young hits an elbow drop on him through a table on the outside. Pretty neat little match. Rating: 5.5/10.

Extreme Rules 2018

Raw Tag Team Championship: The B-Team def. The Deleters of Worlds – Perfect match to start the show. Nothing revolutionary, as Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt go through the motions, but the big shock comes when Bo Dallas hits his finisher for the win. NEW TAG CHAMPS! When asked how they feel, Curtis Axel ponders, “how does a rainbow feel? How did Stretch Armstrong feel when he landed on the moon?” Rating: 6.5/10.

Backstage, Kurt Angle says he’s going to strip Brock Lesnar of the Universal Championship if he doesn’t do something…I wasn’t paying attention. Anyway, “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick chimed in with, “they’re going to give it to Hulk Hogan,” and that comment gets a 10/10.

Finn Balor def. Baron Corbin – Man, how in the doghouse is Corbin? This “Constable” stuff is bad. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never been a fan of wrestlers wrestling in street clothes unless it’s a street fight. This match was pretty damn good, though. Balor gets the win with an inside cradle, but I can’t help but wonder where Corbin goes from here. Rating: 7/10.

SmackDown Women’s Championship: Carmella def. Asuka – This match was all about James Ellsworth being locked inside a cage, and it never really felt like anything more than a gimmick match. I was really hoping Ellsworth would puke from being suspended above the ring, but it didn’t happen. Some shenanigans, as Ellsworth finagles his way out of the cage, but his foot gets hung and so he just swings, upside down, from the cage. Asuka kicks the shit out of him until Carmella sneaks up behind her and pushes her into the shark cage, knocking her out. ‘Mella is money, but that match was bad. Rating: 4/10.

United States Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura def. Jeff Hardy – Oh shit! Nakamura just Lesnar’ed Hardy! A low blow before the bell rang that the ref didn’t see…Nakamura hits the Kinshasa, and just like that, he’s the U.S. Champion. But, the celebration is cut short by a returning Randy Orton, who apparently takes issue with the new champ. There’s an intense stare down before Orton ultimately turns and stomps on Hardy’s nuts. No idea what’s going on here. Rating: 4/10.

Overall, the rest of this review was lost. No idea what happened from the time it was published to this morning, but I wake up to find half the review is missing, there’s no longer a featured image, and somehow, this post isn’t even up on the main page. What the fuck?

I gave this show a 5/10. It was awful, but the main event was one of my favorite matches of the year. I don’t get the Ziggler hate – sometimes, it seems as though wrestling Twitter just wants to complain about stuff. Also, found the WWE Championship match rather enjoyable. If you have time to check those two out, I’d say go for it but don’t worry about the rest of the show. Lashley-Reigns was okay.

I’m pissed I lost this article. Damn it.
