Daniel Bryan Dropped an All-world Promo on Big Cass After Smackdown Last Night

To think we almost didn’t get this story, this magical return to the ring. Daniel Bryan will go down as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. But, I don’t know that the wrestling world recognizes him for the A+ promos he delivers. He’s set to take on Big Cass at Money In The Bank on June 17th, and last night, he dropped a world class promo on the seven footer:

Beautiful.

I want to watch Big Cass get his leg broken now. That’s what Bryan has done here, folks – I’m now actively rooting for someone to get their leg broken. That’s how fired up I am.

But, it’s a testament to one of Bryan’s more underrated skills. He’s a master of the promo – all the cadence of a Jake “The Snake” Roberts promo, using a slow pace to lay a foundation. Building to an angry, chaotic “loss of control” like old school Mick Foley. Climaxing with a delivery like the unbridled passion of a fiery Ric Flair. It’s just masterful.

Blurring the lines a bit, talking about how Big Cass didn’t train enough, etc. etc. Playing off of wrestling fans’ perception of Big Cass. Adding that element of realism to it. Just all around a great promo – and Bryan’s been known to drop stuff like this before. Again, he doesn’t get the credit he deserves for being such a good promo.

Quick note on Cass – I actually love this program for him. John Mosley and I hashed it out on a recent episode of the Checks and Championships Podcast. People are going to shit on this rivalry. But, I think it’s excellent for Big Cass. Think about it – you want a guy to get better, you put him in the ring with a ring general. You want a guy to get over as a heel, you put him against one of the most beloved figures on the show. I even thought they had a pretty good showing at Backlash, though most of wrestling Twitter hated it.

Like it or not, it’s working. Daniel Bryan is doing his damn thing.
