First Heat Wave of the Year Is Here and I Am Cool for the Summer

There’s absolutely no rest for Nashvillians when it comes to weather. It’s really ridiculous. But, this year has felt particularly absurd. Just a week or so ago, I was still bringing a hoodie to the dreaded day job, just in case. Temperatures were dipping down into the 40s and 50s, and it didn’t seem like we were going to ever shake that last little bit of winter. Welp, you can always count on Tennessee weather to keep things interesting. A week later, and it’s a veritable Nashville heat wave.

Record highs for this time in May, breaking a record that stood for 137 years:

I know that “Tennessee weather” is a tired old cliche. “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes. It’ll change!” Hardy har har.

But, are you kidding me, Tennessee? Are you for real? Just look at the temperature graph for April:

All over the place, then BOOM – out of nowhere, we’re hit with a heat wave here in May. I know it probably sounds like I’m complaining, and some of you are probably already thinking, “yeah yeah yeah – this guy was just wishing for warm weather, and now it’s warm and he’s complaining about that.”

But, as you can see below….I am absolutely HERE FOR IT:

Yep – I’m suddenly scrambling to put together my Nashville Summer Guide for 2018…or alternatively titled, “places to get day drunk and pass out in a tank top.” Summer time, LFG!

Just because I wasn’t expecting it doesn’t mean I’m not excited for it. I just wasn’t prepared, y’know? Here I was thinking, “ah, it’s going to be cool for another month or so.” And, then I get slapped in the face with 92 degrees, hot damn!

Make no mistake about it – I am cool for the summer and ready for Lake Season. The quicker I can get out of these jeans and into a pair of trunks, the better. There might even be some skinny dipping involved. That’s how pumped I am for these record highs. Matter of fact, you see me in my Daisy Dukes come June and we’ll be setting different kinds of record highs if you know what I mean.

Heat wave, shmeat wave.

(Editor’s note: I just thought of a cool pro wrestling finishing move name: the Meat Wave – as you were. Carry on.)

(Editor’s note, Part II – This could be one of the most pointless blogs I’ve ever written)
