Butch Jones Has Only Been an Intern for a Few Weeks and Suddenly Alabama Players Are Going on “Leadership Trips”

By now, it’s no secret that Nick Saban absolutely emasculated former Vols head coach Butch Jones by calling him an intern. But, since joining the team as a $35K-a-year “analyst,” it’s clear to see that Jones’ influence is spreading all throughout the Crimson Tide program. His role as an “off-the-field” consultant is pretty clear: he’s going to organize activities for the players. Let’s face it – there can’t be any real football interest in Jones, but Saban knows he’s good at morale-boosting craft days and assigning nicknames….and that is worth precisely $35K a year.

Courtesy of the fine folks at SEC Country:

While Jalen Hurts remains entrenched in a battle for the starting quarterback job with Tua Tagovailoa, he’s still known as one of the top leaders on the team.

Any doubt about that should be gone as the Crimson Tide head toward summer, as Hurts was part of a 14-player “leadership trip” to Tampa, Fla., this weekend.

Leadership Trip ‼️ #RollTide

Leadership has been a focus for this Alabama team since the beginning of spring ball. Replacing 12 draftees and other contributors on the field won’t be easy, but filling that leadership void will be vital.

Damn it, guys. This is just too far.

It’s clear that Jones’ influence is sinking in too deeply. I’m surprised there’s not a damn trash can featured prominently in this photo. Are there leadership reps on leadership trips? Do these guys have five-star hearts? How long does Jones have to be involved in a program before they can be champions of life? If you’re already a National Champion of football, does that then make you a champion of life? I have so many questions for Jones.

Okay, damn – even I know when to stop kicking a man when he’s down. I hope Butch Jones performs well. He just makes it so easy sometimes. Roll Tide.
