Southern Underground Pro: Satisfaction is the Death of Desire Recap

The one year anniversary show for Southern Underground Pro took place yesterday at The Basement East and even the shit weather wasn’t going to rain on this parade. As always, it was time to hit up the bar and get nestled ringside for some SUP insanity.

Kerry Awful vs. Mr. Brickster

This was a surprise as most of us in the crowd were expecting to see Kerry and Brett Ison square up though Kerry let everyone know he would deal with Brett later in the night. This was Mr. Brickster’s introduction here in Nashville, and I have to say it went great. Brick took everything Kerry had and went right back just as hard. Kerry ends up with the win but a very, strong showing for Mr. Brickster as we look forward to seeing him grow under the banner. Before there was any sort of celebration, ‘Hail May’ hit on the speakers and the boos began to rain down before Brett Ison could make his way from the back.

Kerry Awful vs. Brett Ison

Ison literally walked into the ring and fucked up both Kerry and Brick. People are gonna say that this was a ‘squash’ match and that’s simply not the case. This was an execution. We debated on the time, and haven’t gotten an official answer, but in less than 20 seconds Brett spikes Kerry with Street Justice and gets the victory. Brett flips off the crowd and makes his way to the locker room to a chorus of ‘Fuck You Brett’ from the SUP faithful.

AJ Gray vs. O’ Shay Edwards

I’m a fan of both of these guys so this was a very, pleasant surprise. We had some hard hitting shots and A+ shit talk. O’Shay is a fucking machine, man. But, AJ doesn’t have an ounce of quit in him and a mean frogsplash variation. D’Lo would be proud. AJ with the dub, but both guys are studs and we need more O’Shay at SUP.

[Author’s Note: I know for a fact AJ celebrated the win with a wood tip. Enjoy those sweets bro.]

Kevin Ku vs. Donovan Danhausen

Ku defended the PWF Tri-States Title against Danhausen in what turned out to be a slug fest. Both men are known for putting their bodies on the line so of course sharing the ring with a championship on the line meant they were REALLY gonna go all out. This ended up being one of my favorite matches on the card. The chemistry between both guys was through the roof with Danhausen taking mad kicks and continuing to get up. Ku retains but both guys had their share of moments and I wouldn’t be upset at all to see a rematch in the near future.

Allie Kat vs. ‘Slutty Kat’ Joshua Bishop: Round 2

Well, well, well…the match…nay, the Kat Fight everyone wanted again was next up with Slutty Kat looking to settle the score and get a little bit of kat revenge after losing to Allie Kat at the previous SUP show. Allie was very polite and even offered drinks as a sign of kat respect. I believe she even said that the kats needed to stick together and maybe be kat friends but you just can’t trust a slutty kat. We had back and forth kat action ending with Slutty Kat using his slutty size to get the win. This feels far from over and dare I say a Cat Nip on a Pole Match may be the only way to put this kat-astrophe behind us.

8-Man Scramble Match

This was some straight fuckery in and outside of the ring. Like, there was so much going on in a good way that it was almost intoxicating…or maybe that was all the PBRs. Either way this was a blast.

We had the likes of Danny Adams, Jaxon Stone, Sage Philips, Marko Stunt, Cabana Man Dan, Monix, Teddy King and Jake Landers combining for complete chaos. During the match, Teddy started shouting out the Jacksonville Jaguars which O’ Shay and I thought was hilarious because Blake Bortles is garbage. Marko went bonkers per usual with flips anywhere and everywhere. FYI, Marko has badass fanny packs…between him and Jesse it feels like SUP is bringing the fanny pack back and I respect the shit out of that. Marko Stunt gets the win, the crowd goes crazy and I need a fanny pack ASAP.

Mance Warner vs. MJF vs. Ethan Page

What a rollercoaster ride this was from pre-match talk to post-match punches. I was 100% expecting to see Mance take both of MJF’s eyes and add them to the collection in ole Bucksnort, TN. To everyone’s surprise, Ethan Page made his way to the ring and added himself to this box of eye poke dynamite. Someone on twitter called this match ‘the perfect storm’ and hot damn if that isn’t a perfect summation.

Everything from moonsaults to an eye poke circle to Page superplexing Mance onto MJF. Ol Mancer submits Page to get the win. This is one of the best matches SUP has blessed us with which is saying a lot if you ask me. Post-match, MJF acts like he’s not a complete piece of shit just long enough to sucker punch Papa Hales. We had thought it, but this move confirms that the F in MJF stands for fuck boy.

Dominic Garrini vs. Curt Stallion

At the previous SUP show, Dom defeated Curt via ref stoppage to win the Bonestorm Championship. Because Curt wasn’t pinned or submitted in that match, we knew he would be coming into the rematch angry and an angry Curt Stallion is a savage. Oh, and by the way, this match would be a street fight with falls counting anywhere.

Dom and Curt got started right away with some stiff punches on both sides. From there, the two just beat the holy hell out of each other all over The Basement East. At one point, Dom pulled the mat up revealing the boards that make up the ring. On paper, a smart move for punishing your opponent. But, a Curt reversal into a belly to back suplex had Dom hurting. Seriously, this was some nasty shit that had me and even O’Shay saying “fuck all that.”

But wait, there’s more!

From here, we had a couple of gnarly steel chair shots before heading to the stage. Dom takes control with a piledriver on the stage then another before referee Doug Markham makes the count. Dominic Garrini retains in an absolute war.

Post-match, an upset Curt Stallion takes his frustrations out on Doug with a headbutt before AJ Gray shows up to stop the attack. This leads to Curt smashing AJ over and over and over again with a steel chair. Finally, Curt makes his way to the locker room and AJ collects himself before calling Curt a bitch. These two will face off at the next SUP show on June 17.
