The 2018 Watertown Mile Long Yard Sale Was a Blast – Take a Look at Our Haul

Saturday was a long, hard day. It was the 2018 Spring installment of the Watertown mile long yard sale, the biannual community yard sale (they’ll do it again in the Fall). Last year was somewhat of a bust. I mean, Cadbury, Poppa Bear, and myself still had a blast. But, the weather was terrible, and we were forced to cut our trip short. There were hardly any vendors out anyway. This year, the weather was beautiful – couldn’t have asked for a better day, and the town was PACKED with people, booths, and the spirit of the small town yard sale.

We woke up bright and early on Saturday morning – 6AM for me. Went to pick up Cadbury and “Nature Boy” Brandon Vick, and met Mose up in Watertown. We hit the road by 8:30 after a hearty breakfast of Starbuck’s and McDonald’s, as grown adults tend to do.

Brandon has never been to the Watertown mile long yard sale before, so the trip up was spent trying to prime him for the experience he was about to have. Of course, we got off the interstate in Lebanon, and the booths started popping up. 10 miles to Watertown, and it seemed like every 50 feet someone was having a yard sale. It was a good sign of the turnout to come.

We arrive, gather our backpacks, meet up with Mose, and hit the sale. It only took us approximately eight booths before we found something questionable:

That’s the beauty of the Watertown yard sale. You just never know what you’re going to see.

We perused the booths for hours. So long that I’m still dealing with the sunburn on my face and the back of my neck. I thought wearing a hoodie, while making me sweat a little bit, would help shield some of the sun from me…but, it was all for naught – couldn’t dodge the sun everywhere.

I wrestled with buying the edition of Thor that marked the first appearance of Beta Ray Bill for $45. Haven’t seen one in such good condition, but ultimately elected to save my money. We need inventory, after all. But, I will say that if my girlfriend wasn’t with me giving me the “you better not spend $45 on a comic book” look, I might’ve been coaxed into it.

After a few hours on the scene, we decided it was time to test out the local cuisine. They usually roll out all the fair/festival booths, food trucks, and the like for this thing and 2018 was no different. I went with a Polish sausage, BBQ chicken on a stick, and tried a deep fried Oreo (just one – that shit sat in my stomach like a brick). Brandon and Cadbury went down to Mona Lisa’s pizza for lunch, while Mose and his wife joined us at the BBQ chicken on a stick stand, with a giant ear of corn to boot.

And, for those of you who remember our porn box debacle from 2017, we checked and it is indeed still there…still for sale….still with the same inventory.

All in all, a great day – I came away with some old Thor, Jonah Hex, and Black Panther comics, a New York Yankees mini-helmet piggy bank, an old Old Spice bottle, an old boxed gambling set complete with a miniature roulette wheel and all, and a nice wooden Alabama magnet that Mose bought for me. My girlfriend got some giant antique keys to decorate with. Cadbury bought an awesome ammo canister, some pork rinds, and a surprise for his wife that I still haven’t heard whether she found or not.

Mose came away with a run of Batman comics and an awesome Nashville Predators stein:

We had much more coverage on our Instagram account as well. I can’t say it enough – if you aren’t following SoBros Network on IG, you’re missing out on a ton of coverage of our live events, and such great features as New Music Thursday and the SoBros Consumer Report. Give us a follow. Spread the word. All that stuff.

Finally, it may seem silly. But, there has been talk of the SoBros Network crew reserving a table at the 2019 yard sale and selling away a lot of our old junk and merchandise. We’ll see once the holidays roll around and we start our goal-setting for 2019. But, I think the idea’s good, so we’re tentatively planning for it.
