Movie Review Rewind: Pineapple Express (2008)

Stoner movies usually are funny, but most of the time you have to be on something to really laugh at it. Well, that’s not the case for Pineapple Express. The story is simple, but has a mixture of action and comedy. There is actually a balance with each.

Seth Rogan and James Franco are fantastic. They worked so well together, but Franco absolutely stole the show. He did a great job portraying the biggest pothead on screen. These characters stayed true to themselves, and even during the action scenes, they fought like they were high. These are regular guys, mixed up with drug lords, and you know they are in way over their heads. It is funny to watch and see how they get out of every situation.

I cannot write about this movie without mentioning Danny McBride. Some of you may not know who he is, but you will. I really noticed him in Foot Fist Way, and he was funny in that. He has a smaller role in this movie, but steals every scene he is in. He was in most of the funniest parts of the movie. Also, this comedy is smart. You don’t have to be high to get its humor.

The conversations are important in this because it is quick humor being tossed back and forth. I guarantee I missed a few things because, while I was laughing at one line, another funny one was said. Between the quick wit, action scenes, and the chemistry between the characters, this movie was better than I ever imagined.
