Atlanta Falcons Draft Needs 2018

So, you’re probably used to reading about the Tennessee Titans here on SoBros Network. That’s great. But, in case I haven’t made this public yet, Atlanta, Georgia happens to be our second biggest market. We have a few thousand readers down in the ATL who keep up with us each and every month. That or maybe it’s just one dude/chick completely obsessing over us. I don’t know. But, regardless, we thought it might be nice to cater some content to those folks. So, here we are. Let’s talk some Atlanta Falcons draft needs.

Anything short of a Super Bowl was bound to be a disappointment for the Falcons this year. But, I don’t think it’s fair to not call this team a success. They ended up winning 11 games, finishing the regular season 10-6. But, it was an upset of the up-and-coming Los Angeles Rams that really validated this team.

They lost in the Divisional Round to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, 15-10, in Philly. The fact that they gave the Eagles their biggest fit of the postseason, and that it took the best team in football to send them home for the season, should have Falcons fans feeling optimistic.

The Falcons were 8th in total offense and 9th in total defense. So, it’s not like they’re too far off from getting back to their winning ways. Let’s hit the highlights, folks – you know the drill…and if not, welcome to the thunderdome (SoBros Netw0rk).

Atlanta Falcons Draft Needs

1. Defensive tackle – the Falcons lost Dontari Poe to division rival Carolina. Suddenly, they have a HUGE hole next to Grady Jarrett along the defensive line. They need a starter and an immediate impact player at the position.

2. Guard – The interior of the offensive line, particularly right guard Wes Schweitzer, got flat out pushed around at the end of 2017. With Jake Matthews and Ryan Schraeder solidifying each end, expect the Falcons to draft a guard/center/hybrid early.

3. Tight end – Austin Hooper could very well develop into a nice tight end. But, this franchise has been looking for an elite weapon at the spot ever since Tony Gonzalez retired. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pick a more reliable pass-catcher at the position.

4. Pass rush –  Takk McKinley came in as a first round draft pick and played pretty well. His continued development should lessen the blow dealt by losing Adrian Clayborn. But, if he doesn’t continue to develop, then the Falcons would need some pass rushing talent.

5. Wide Receiver – The Falcons lost Taylor Gabriel to free agency, where he signed with the Chicago Bears. As it stands, the Falcons lack the dynamic nature that Gabriel’s game brought to the team. They could stand to add a shiftier wide receiver in the draft.
