Titans: I Love the Kevin Pamphile Signing

The Tennessee Titans and the GM, ol’ wheelin’ and dealin’ Jon Robinson, continue to make moves. They made a huge splash in free agency, signing Malcolm Butler and Dion Lewis to fat contracts. DaQuan Lewis and Josh Kline have been retained. Now, they’ve added a new offensive lineman, Kevin Pamphile, to come in and provide depth and competition.

The Titans have agreed to terms with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Kevin Pamphile.

Pamphile, a fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, will provide competition on the Titans offensive line.

Pamphile, 27, spent the last four seasons in Tampa Bay, where he played guard and tackle. He brings versatility to the Titans – he’s capable of playing every position on the offensive line.

In his career, Pamphile (6-5, 310) has played in 53 games with 33 starts, including 15 starts at left guard last season for the Buccaneers. Pamphile, who played collegiately at Purdue, started 14 games for the Buccaneers in 2016.

Love it. It’s not flashy. It’s not sexy. The media isn’t going to be clamoring over the merits of signing Pamphile. But, the guy has a solid body of work and the Titans flat out need to get better along the offensive line.

This is one of those “championship depth” moves, folks. The Titans are getting a guy who started for 14 or 15 games the last two seasons. He can play any position along the line. Folk, that’s what we in the media call, “a good thing.”

Don’t want to throw around the c-word all willy nilly. But, this is a guy with a capable pedigree. There are teams in the NFL for which Pamphile could start. Now, he’s going to come in, there’s going to be some competition along that offensive line, and it should make everyone better. Plus, the Titans could still draft a guy! That’s a championship culture.

Besides, we all know the Titans have good luck with those Purdue Boilermakers. Shout out to Touchdown Dennis Kelly.

JRob and company are really setting themselves up nicely to go into “best player available” mode from the second round of the draft on. Still say they need a rangy do-it-all ILB like Rashaan Evans in the first round. But, otherwise, they’re in a great position.
