There May Not Be a Better Name in College Football Than ‘Alex Leatherwood’ – Roll Damn Tide

I actually meant to write this piece WAYYYYY back when the Alabama Crimson Tide won the National Championship. Oh yeah! Y’all ‘member that that happened, right?

Anyway, I meant to write this back then after Alex Leatherwood came on in relief of Jonah Williams after he sustained an injury. He played admirably and all, but I couldn’t help but notice what a badass name ‘Alex Leatherwood’ is. Now, I was reminded, “oh shit, Stoney – you never wrote that Alex Leatherwood article (lol who calls what I do ‘articles?’)” when I came across this awesome piece from the fine folks at AL.com.

And right now Saban has a surplus of quality tackles.

Wills is one of them. So too is Alex Leatherwood, another rising sophomore who excelled when he replaced the injured Williams in the second half of Alabama’s victory over Georgia in the national championship game.

“We feel Alex and Jonah both can play left tackle, but I think Alex can play someplace else, and I think Jonah can play someplace else,” Saban said. “I think Jedrick Wills may be able to play somewhere else. So the goal is always to get the best five players on the field and we may experiment with somebody else playing center at some point in time as well. I just really like both of those young players (Leatherwood and Wills).”

Yeah, it’s really sick how Saban just churns these studs out as if they’re rolling off an assembly line and whatnot. But, we have to talk about how badass Alex Leatherwood sounds. I hear the name ‘Alex Leatherwood,’ and I don’t think ‘offensive tackle.’ I think ‘legendary explorer.’ Alex Leatherwood sounds like he could whoop Indiana Jones’ candy ass.

Or, maybe Alex Leatherwood is an esteemed lawyer who is a little rough around the edges but is known for his tenacity for justice. He fights for the little people. For those of us who have been wronged by the criminal justice system. But, like…in a really grizzled, hardened manner.

It could also be that Alex Leatherwood is an arms dealer who has seen the harm his practice has brought to the world and has decided to turn on the warlords who perpetuate it.

Whatever it is……Roll Damn Tide. Is it football season yet?
