Titans Draft Roundup 2018: Free Agent Frenzy Edition

Welcome to the weekly Tennessee Titans draft roundup for the 2018 NFL Draft. Over the course of the next several weeks, I’ll be releasing this column once a week with my very professional journalism opinions. You’ll find everything from rumors to wild speculation to actual analysis (sometimes). Titan up!

A week after our debut edition and already things are getting crazy. It’s free agency week – the Titans are signing Dion Lewis, Malcolm Butler is joining the secondary, Avery Williamson turned down the Titans initial offer, Quinton Spain out here tweeting some cryptic shit, and Titans fans are still clamoring for every available free agent. Let’s dive right in.

*Finally got around to launching this year’s installment of Tennessee Titans First Round Options and I’m kicking off draft season with a breakdown of Boston College DE/OLB Harold Landry. Landry remains the most-mocked player to the Titans.

*In case you missed it, the Titans spent time with Fordham RB Chase Edmonds at the combine. More on that from Tony Pauline at Draft Analyst.

*Nate Davis of USA Today is jumping on the ‘RB in the first round bandwagon,’ predicting the Titans will select Georgia running back Sony Michel at #25. I still just don’t see it. And, with the addition of Lewis, file that under never (MAN – I’ve been waiting for years to bring back “file that under never”).

*Speaking of the running backs, keep an eye on Miami RB Mark Walton. He was a guy I heard Mark Howard mention on 104.5 The Zone several weeks ago, and he seems to be gaining a little traction in mocks.

*Thanks to Kyle Zwiazek over at Titan Sized, J.T. Barrett’s name caught my eye this week. I don’t hate the idea, honestly. Barrett was a very successful dual-threat quarterback at Ohio State. I still think the Titans need a veteran presence backing up Marcus Mariota, and Brandon Weeden isn’t going to cut it. But, if it’s later on in the draft, I think I’d be okay with this selection. Read Zwiazek’s full column here.

*The Titans had scouts at Colorado’s Pro Day – few targets there, namely CB Isaiah Oliver. But, the guy that intrigues me from the Buffs is RB Phillip Lindsay. Can you tell I’m hung up on that RB spot yet?

*Mike Vrabel out there running drills at Alabama’s Pro Day…as if I couldn’t love this coaching hire any more…

*As it stands, the Titans still have six picks in this year’s draft (at the moment):

1st round – 25th overall
2nd round – 57th overall
3rd round – 89th overall
4th round – 125th overall
5th round – 162nd overall
6th round – 199th overall

That’s all I have this week – talk to y’all next Wednesday.
