Josh McDaniels was a downright douchebag to the city of Indianapolis. For the better part of a month, the guy was expected to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Then, at the 11th hour, he pulls out to stay with the New England Patriots. At one time, that might’ve been considered treason. But, the Colts have sucked for so long that it’s not really a rivalry anymore. Not since Deflategate, anyway.
Well, with the NFL Scouting Combine coming to Indy, it provides an opportunity for McDaniels to come scope out the college talent. However, it looks like he’s not going to be making the trip after all.
When the media hears from coaches and GMs at the NFL combine, it is largely head coaches who are speaking. But prominent coordinators are always seen and often heard from during the combine. Josh McDaniels will be neither this year, as the guy who was almost hired as Colts coach before bailing on Indy will not be hanging out in Indianapolis.
That’s according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, who also reports this is the “standard plan” for the Patriots.
Yeah, I don’t care if that’s the standard plan or not. It’s probably a good idea for McDaniels’ safety that he stay as far away from that city as possible. I don’t care if there’s armed guards at St. Elmo’s steakhouse, some typically law-abiding citizen that was pushed too far by McDaniels’ shenanigans will get into that restaurant and find a way to drive a fork into his neck.
That was a really long sentence, so I’ll give you a moment to process it if you need to.
Ian Rapoport was nice to say that this is standard protocol to keep McDaniels from looking like a bitch. I like Rapoport. Seems like a great dude to grab a brew with, but this isn’t a post about Ian Rapoport, so moving right along.
McDaniels definitely looks like a wuss, but I can’t say I blame him. He’s definitely 100000000% staying in New England because he’s fearful of his life, as he should be. But, those are the consequences when you’re a jerk to an entire city and fan base.
We’ve actually been talking about who’s the bigger douche between McDaniels and Lane Kiffin in the SoBros Slack group. It was decided in landslide fashion that McDaniels is infinitely more of a prick. At least Kiffin is entertaining, and seems fun to party with.
If McDaniels were to travel to Indy, it would only result in heartbreak….like…literally….someone would rip his heart out of his chest. Sooooooo…..probably the right call for him to make.
