Southern Underground Feud: Brett Ison and Righteous Jesse

I watched Brett Ison carve up Righteous Jesse’s head with multiple forks at a bar in Nashville. It happened back in October at Southern Underground Pro (SUP)’s “Headwalk Among Us.”

SUP has put on a few shows in Nashville now and they’re starting to get a reputation as “the promotion that puts on badass shows at bars,” which is a perfect summation. Curt Stallion, Mance Warner, and The Carnies (albeit in singles competition) are being featured at the next show on February 25 at The Basement East.

It should be a card talked about from top to bottom. I say should because the only match I find myself really talking about is Brett Ison vs. Righteous Jesse in a Dog Collar Match. What makes this match different than any other you’ll see is the personal history and animosity between Brett and Jesse.

The two have been friends since the 7th grade. They dreamed, trained and broke into the business together. After years, they both stepped away to focus on other priorities before finding themselves back in the wrestling world in 2014.

Since then, Jesse has helped SUP become what it is, whereas Brett has become a force inside the squared circle. The friendship started to crack in August 2017 after an assault on Kevin Ku that Brett was apart of left Ku with a broken neck. Jump ahead to October and Jesse brings in Mr. Grim to beat some humility in Brett.

Instead, Ison is left standing tall as he runs through Grim with ease. This is the moment where, from Brett’s perspective, the situation got personal.

“I felt like he was trying to take out his best friend so I took it further by tossing him offstage and stabbing four forks in his head at the same time” said Ison when asked about the situation.

The attack on Jesse ended the show and left the entire bar in shock as Jesse made his way to the locker room. The two haven’t spoken since the attack other than on social media with Jesse making it very clear he wants retribution.

“We’ve been on the same side and opposite sides” Jesse added, “Here’s your chance to finish what you started Brett Ison. Don’t disappoint me.”
