Has Nick Foles Won Himself a Starting Job Somewhere?

There’s no other way to put it, folks. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles played his fuckin’ guts out against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship. Dude was 26/33 for 352 yards and three touchdowns. He was slingin’ the ball all over the yard, as the Eagles ROUTED the Vikings 38-7.

What’s amazing is that Foles did it all against the best defense in football. Scratch that – one of the historically great defenses. But, he couldn’t miss. Alshon Jeffery had a couple of long bomb touchdowns. Torrey Smith had one. It was like the Eagles offense had

Remember back in December when Carson Wentz went down for the year? And, everyone said the Eagles were cooked? Yeah – “No winning with Foles,” and “there goes the Super Bowl.” All that talk.

Well, guess what. Nick freaking Foles doesn’t give a shit about what you say. All he’s done is lead the #1 seed Eagles all the way to a Super Bowl appearance. And, forget about just showing up….this is a game the Eagles can actually win.

So, all of this is ultimately to beg the big question: should Nick Foles be starting somewhere?

I know, I know….it’s only been a handful of games, but hear me out.

The guy showed immense potential during that first run, when he had that 27 touchdown to two interception ratio. And, like a lot of players, it’s taken some time to develop. Think about it – quarterbacks are fast tracked into the starting role these days.

Gone are the guys who go the Aaron Rodgers route, waiting patiently for a few seasons before starting their first game. No, nowadays, you start from the jump.

Foles started, played well, and then slid into obscurity. Case Keenum isn’t much different. He’s hung on just long enough to get a decent chance. That’s what Foles has now….a decent chance to prove himself.

You may be saying, “but Stoney – Foles signed a five year deal.” Well, pump the brakes there sir or madam. Check out what CBS is reporting:

Foles signed a five-year contract with the Eagles, but it had one major caveat. If he is on the Eagles’ roster come February 2019, the final three years of the deal will automatically be voided and he’ll become a free agent. Voiding contracts aren’t entirely uncommon; this one almost guarantees that Foles will be traded by February 2019.

Will they keep him around another season? Yeah, of course! But, mark my words. If the Eagles win a Super Bowl, and Foles has another stellar game, someone in the NFL is going to take a chance on the guy.

It’s just so hard to find quality quarterbacks in the NFL, that someone will look at him as a guy with a stable floor and a Super Bowl ceiling. Just look at all the teams with uncertainty looming at the quarterback position.

The Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Los Angeles Chargers could ALL be looking for a new quarterback in the next season or two.

That’s almost a third of the league. So, yeah – if he keeps this up, Foles is going to find him a starting gig somewhere.
