This Good Boy Fired Off a Gun at a Grocery Store Brawl

It is 2017 – dogs are cops now. Yes, indeed….for those unaware good boys and girls have been cops for ages now. But, usually, their role in law enforcement has been reserved for sniffing out drugs, bombs, and the like…well, apparently, the Canadians are stepping up their game in a way us Americans can only dream of at the moment. That’s right, folks – a dog fired a gun.

Courtesy of Global News:

A police dog in Chestermere, Alta., had a close call on Thursday when it inadvertently fired a handgun found while investigating a fight in a grocery store parking lot.

RCMP said one shot was fired, but neither the dog nor his handlers were injured.

At the time, the dog was tracking two suspects.

Officers began investigating the fight at around 6:30 p.m. after being called to the unnamed grocery store for reports of an assault with a weapon.

RCMP said two men assaulted a third in an incident in which a gun was seen — but not fired. Witnesses intervened in the attack and the suspects ran from the scene.

While tracking the suspects, the dog found a handgun in a bushy and treed area near the grocery store.

In a Thursday news release, RCMP said “during the recovery by the police dog, the trigger was activated and a shot was fired from the handgun.”

The police dog wasn’t injured and “no civilians” were in the area at the time.

So, first and foremost. I feel like I need to make my position on this sensitive subject clear early: I am not opposed to police dogs being equipped with a firearm. I just want them to be appropriately trained on how to use the gun. That’s all.

I don’t know that this little scare happens if the dog who fired the gun knew how to use it.

Or, you know what – maybe this dog decided to go rogue and fire off a warning shot to the people fighting in the grocery store. Maybe he was tired of dealing with that shit. He wanted to go home and chew on a bone, so he thought he’d expedite the process. But, I don’t know. It’s hard for me to understand where this dog was coming from and what caused this, because mainly I don’t have a dog’s brain.

But, if that is indeed the case, then this is a huge blow to the pro-dogs having guns crowd. Again, I think it’s hard to get inside the mind of a dog, but with continued work under a unified front, we can get there.
