My Definitive Chris Cornell Playlist, R.I.P.

Damn. We lost another legend last night…gone way too soon…

Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, died Wednesday night after performing in Detroit, his representative told CNN.

Cornell’s death, at age 52, is being investigated as a “possible suicide,” a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department told CNN.
A family friend called 911 around midnight Thursday after he went to check on Cornell and found the musician “unresponsive” on the bathroom floor at the MGM Grand hotel, spokesman Michael Woody said. Emergency medical personnel arrived, and Cornell was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
I was born in 1986. I grew up hearing Cornell’s voice all over Nashville’s 102.9 The Buzz. For people of my age and musical taste, Cornell’s voice was rooted into our subconscious. I’ve always considered him a part of the last great age of the true rock star – Dave Grohl, Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Cornell, etc. That era.

I wore out Soundgarden’s “Outshined” as soon as I heard it for the first time. When he returned to the music scene.

I’ve been blaring his music on repeat all morning, just thinking of what a truly great body of work this man put together, and I figured I might as well share it with our readers.
He was one of the most unique voices in rock history – incredibly powerful, just rugged enough to distinguish himself, and dynamic enough to sing anything he wanted to. He’s one of the all-time greats.

But, my all time favorite…easily:

R.I.P., Mr. Cornell. You left behind quite the legacy.
