A Day That Likely Will Not Live in Infamy

Top 3 trending stories in the world according to Facebook: 1) President Trump tweets about negative customer service experience at Taco Bell 2) Kim Jong Un plays with newest toy rocket 3) Adam Ogilvie loves his own opinion on MLB, graciously accepts SoBro’s offer to write it once a week. While 1 and 2 are certainly not shocking, you might be asking yourself a few questions about the 3rd, “Who?! What?! Why?!”

Who TF is Adam Ogilvie?  Spoiler Alert: I am. I am the 29 year old, recently engaged, soon to be homeowner, who turns out to be really bad at picking items to multi task. (Do NOT buy a house while planning a wedding) I am the guy that traded what could have been a very average NAIA baseball career for a pack of smokes and a drinking problem. I’m a former player, coach, and will always be a baseball advocate. I have been humbled by life experience but still have enough ego left to think you people might actually care about my take on professional baseball. You’re welcome….?

What will I contribute? I promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in the form of my interpretation of the truth, whether you ask for it or not. I’ve decided to call my column “First Pitch Fastball Friday” for a few reasons . First, I’m hopeful that “Friday” holds me accountable to a due day. Next, “First Pitch Fastball” is a phrase that not only gels with alliteration, but also has a deeper meaning on some psychological, next level $h!t. When coaching, I always told my players, “The easiest way to hit a curveball is to hit the fastball they throw prior.” I started to apply this same ideology to my life circa Jan. 2015 , Proactive > Reactive, and the results: Current > Past.  And lastly, it sounded much better than all other options yielded during my insomnia induced brainstorming session last night.

Why I am doing this? Again, many reasons, but my short answer has three parts.

Part I: For Love of the Game. Bryant Gumbel said it best,”The other sports are just sports. Baseball is a Love.”

Part II: Personal Progression. On a more serious note, I am a recovering alcoholic and as cliche as it may sound, I believe that an idle mind is the devil’s playground, and so far, busy Adam hasn’t been to jail once. *knock on wood*

Part III: Big Picture I’ve loved the SoBros Network’s Mission since the first time I heard about it. I’ve admired and supported the people putting the work in for just as long, and in some cases, longer. (“You’re my boy, Bill”) If you give me a chance to be part of a great product with better people, I’ll sign up every time.

TL;DR: “I’m Adam, here for the party, to get me some, because you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” Gretchen Wilson, Michael Scott, Wayne Gretzky, Adam Ogilvie, and Batman (probably at some point).

Adam Ogilvie is the Lead MLB Analyst for The SoBros Network. A former player and coach, Ogilvie is a firm believer in that you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Follow him on Twitter, @The_Real_OG_615
